Bill (’65) & Mary Troy

My wife, Mary O’Reilly Troy, and I will be married 50 years this August. We met in 1965 during the week between finals and graduation while we were renting adjoining cabins on Lake Champlain along classmates.

I was from Connecticut and she came from New York. She went to Trinity and I to SMC, but in the four years of our respective college programs we had never met. I discovered she lived in Kingston, NY where my mother was originally from and had left around 1940. I grew up in Stamford, Connecticut. Come to find out, her grandmother and my grandmother were best friends growing up in Kingston (50 years previously)! We have even uncovered a very old photo of the two grandmothers together, taken when they were young women. Obviously we have had to endure jokes about an “arranged marriage” for many years.
