We met in 2007 as members of the SMC Swim Team and credit Drew Millikin ’01 and the late Jim Donoghue ’70 with bringing us together. We swam in adjacent lanes but didn’t really speak to each other for months, since Erick was shy and Christine was wrapped up in her own freshman world. We started talking around the holidays and stayed connected over the break, when Christine went on the swim team training trip and Erick went kayaking in Ecuador with the Wilderness Program. In the new year, we went on a few dates and officially became a couple.
We dated all through college, including Christine’s study abroad semester and her senior year, after Erick had graduated and moved into downtown Burlington. After graduating, Christine left the east coast for two years with AmeriCorps in Denver and we grew our relationship long-distance. We moved to Denver together in 2013 and have been here ever since.
On November 21, 2015, Erick proposed while skiing at the top of Arapahoe Basin at 13,050 feet elevation (literally breathtaking). Christine said yes and our collective SMC family said FINALLY! We were married October 22, 2016 at SMC with 24 alumni in attendance.
We credit the strength of our relationship to our differences, ability to communicate, love of adventure AND a night on the couch, and to everyone who has supported us on our 9 year journey that all started in the SMC pool.
