Our first introductions came by way of my social meddling (yet very much adored) mother while in line at pre-orientation. Eric was in front of us in line when my mother tapped on his shoulder and said, “you’re a psychology major…my daughter is a psychology major!”
This was nothing short of embarrassing and although we exchanged glances, few words were shared in that moment. Fast forward to the start of school, settling into campus life and meeting up again at an orientation party, we started a friendship. By Halloween, we climbed aboard the city bus headed for a romantic dinner at Alfredo’s in downtown Burlington (later, it was the location for his proposal).
We had many fantastic days at St. Mike’s together and with our friends. I was much more successful recruiting St. Mike’s males into MOVE with the help of Eric talking up the “Senior” Prom and Best Buddies. Just over one year after graduation, October 1997, our friends would join us for what they termed as “reunion” and we called “our wedding.” This year will be 20 years of marriage. We have two great boys and we hope they, too, will find a school just as fitting as St. Mikes was for us.
St. Mike’s is a special place—a place that set the foundation for many fantastic memories.
